Starting out on this project I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew I wanted to do a pocket watch, but I wasn’t sure where to start. I started by going online and finding different watches that I liked. I chose several that had elements I liked and chose a different elements from each one.

After I found different elements that I liked I drew them out to get the basic shapes that I liked. I experimented with putting my own twist on come of the elements. Some of them worked and some of them didn’t. I drew different hands, faces, and crowns. This helped me to see what elements I wanted to put together and what would work well together.

When I first started in illustrator I drew out the basic shapes. I started playing with different colors to create shadows and highlights. Some of the things I did at first didn’t work and I had to make some changes to the color and certain elements.

Once I got everything figured out with creating shadows and highlights and got all the elements figured out things started moving pretty quickly. I think other elements turned out better than others. I’m really happy with how the crown turned out. It was the last thing I did so I had figured things out pretty well by that point. I wish I would have done a little better with some of the highlights and shadows, but over all, for this being my first photo-realistic design I am pretty happy with the results.
