For this set of icons, I wanted to do something over done and make it my own.

As I was sketching, I realized I was having the most fun with various types of weird sea creatures. Some of them looked rather uncomfortable, so I hit the ground running from there.

I decided to do fewer shapes and more drawing, which was a little frustrating since I like the shape builder way more than the pen tool. I thought, why not push myself and went to work. I wanted to make more of a subdued color scheme, with the same basic values for each creature.

Here’s my draft:

I really liked the idea, but wanted to improve. After a recommendation from my professor and classmates, I cleaned up a lot of my paths, added shadows, and did quite a bit of work on the narwhal.

Here’s my final result:

I really like it, and might continue working on it in the future. It’s fun and playful.
