Jestering Through Life | Vector Paths

This assignment I had the goal in mind to create stickers that would have meaning to me. I wanted to create stickers through illustrator that would convey a message of something that I have been feeling for the past couple of months. This may be due to me graduating and feeling an incredible amount of senioritis, but for the past couple months I feel like I have become this empty being, just trying to entertain and please those around me, to get acceptance from my professors, to give up personal life and time with my family and daughter to “perform for royalty”. I know it may sound dramatic, but that’s the best way I can describe these internal feelings that have been plaguing me lately. I have three pages of sketches, but ironically, all the ones that I decided to do ended up being on the same page so I will only show you that one page of my sketches.

As you can see from these sketches they have the idea of a jester and entertainment. Growing up my nickname was always Jester, with that name, I created “Jesster Productions” (Jester Productions was already taken) as my own personal video company. And I loved it, but then little time started being left for passion projects and most of my time was spent on required work. I’m not complaining because there is no substitution for hard work, but life started becoming more mundane than I would have liked. So I eventually came up with this first draft.

It was alright, but it all sort of felt disconnected. With this draft, it felt like there was no message that correlated to how I felt. Also, the design felt very week and un-artistic. So I decided to change up a few things and play around more with stroke widths and shadowing. My final product ended up looking like this.

I am actually pretty happy with how this turned out, I feel like I was able to convey what I was aiming to do as well as make it more visually appealing, this was a project that I feel pretty good about and I hope others will enjoy it as well.
