“Dark Times” – Matthew Rapp
This project was a blast. SO much work, but I feel so accomplished and feel so much better as a graphic designer.
First, here is the watch I tried to design.
I started off with some sketches. I really am not good at drawing, but this help put things into perspective for me as for how I wanted to start designing the watch on Adobe Illustrator.
As you can see, I started off sketching a design of how I wanted the watch to look from what the original watch looked like. Then I just started sketching out certain parts of the watch to help get down the angles, shading, shapes, etc.
Then I put some work in Adobe Illustrator and came out with this draft.
This was a good start for me because it helped put me in the direction I needed to go. I got a lot of critiques and it was about the coloring and highlighting. So after taking those critiques in mind, I went into illustrator and started working on them. I came out with this draft.
I was pretty proud of myself after this draft, but know I needed to get the highlights right and some of the shapes right. After all the critiques, hard work, and spent time, I came out with this. I am proud of myself because I know how out of my comfort zone this was for me. I grew a ton from this project and plan on challenging myself in the future to help myself improve as an artist and designer.
